Welcome to Redwood Valley Middle School

Have a GREAT summer Cardinals!!

What Will 2020-21 Look Like?

Governor Walz will determine what a return to school will look like by July 31, 2020.  The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has indicated that the structure of school could be either a continuation of what we have been doing this spring or what they call a hybrid model.

We will be creating several options based on the guidance provided by MDE.  We will share those options with parents and students when they are available.  We will continue to assure that all students have access to appropriate devices for learning remotely, as that model of learning will be present to some degree for several months.  We will notify parents of the plan as soon as we know what limitations we will have in meeting students’ needs. The information below is pertaining to the end of the 2019-20 school year. This information will be updated as that information is made available and finalized.

Please contact the RVMS Office if you have any questions - (507) 644-8206.

Instruction will be delivered primarily through the use of Chromebooks and our Schoology program. This does not mean that students will be on technology for the entire amount of time, but they should have a balance of time on Schoology and work on the assignments given without technology.

The classes will be a combination of synchronous (Live) contact and asynchronous (Posted) study/work. Engagement by students will be with the posted work and live work.

  • “Posted” (Asynchronous)-Allows students to access materials, ask questions and practice their skills at any time that works for the student. Asynchronous can allow for practice and deep learning. Class interactions happen via Schoology without real-time interactions. This would include recorded presentations, discussion boards, and collaborative documents in the cloud.

  • “Live” (Synchronous)- This is a situation where you would expect a student to be in attendance and is scheduled. With synchronous learning feedback to the student is immediate. Synchronous allows a teacher to maintain the relationships. Some examples include: Scheduled quizzes and tests, scheduled chat room time for students to share ideas, scheduled video conferences or group phone calls, live-streamed lectures or demonstrations.

    • All of the technology has been provided for students where technology is being used. For families needing paper copies, they are being provided to families in a variety of modes: using the lunch drop-off locations, allowing the family to pick up at school or delivering everything to the family.

    • In situations where families do not wish for their children to engage with technology, paper copies will be provided. The expectations will be that student and teachers will engage on a daily basis.

    • In grades 5-8, we will be using the Schoology platform.
  • Many support staff members will be working to support families and students during this time of distance learning. This includes our counselors, social workers, and mental health professional. In addition, our nurses will be supporting our students who have health needs during distance learning.

See below for the RVMS Schedule

During Distance Learning we will have two staff members dedicated to assisting students with assigned coursework. The staff members will be available through Zoom to hold a 1-on-1 conference to answer individual questions. If the staff member is unable to answer your students questions, they will forward the information to your students teacher for them to contact for assistance.
