Welcome to the RVHS Agricultural Education Department

The start of a new school year is upon us! With that, we welcome the 2018-2019 RVHS school year and all of the memories it will bring. We hope everyone's summer was relaxing as well as eventful. As we are getting close to the start of school, there are some new items you should be aware of. Besides the new school year, the school is currently in the process of building the new Orrin S. Estebo Career Development and Training Center and has added an Ag/Tech position in the department.

The construction for the Career Development and Training Center is ongoing, with the remodeling of the classrooms/building to be finished by the start of school and the construction of the new building to be finished towards Christmas break. Due to remodeling, the Agriculture classrooms have been moved, but are still in the Technology wing of the building. The classrooms have been swapped with the old ALP room and the Middle School Band room. They are located at the end of the hallway to the left. Room numbers are being switched, so we will update them as we figure them out.

We welcome Brandon Thurk, who has filled the new Ag/Tech position in the department. Brandon graduated high school from Heron Lake-Okabena in 2014. During high school, Brandon was involved in FFA, Choir, and Basketball. He then attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities where he majored in Agricultural Education and graduated this past May. Brandon will be an assistant advisor to the RVHS FFA program. If you see Brandon, take some time to talk with him and welcome him to the school district.

The RVHS FFA Chapter will be back in full swing after a summer of leadership camps and community service events. Aside from camps and community service, students are able to compete in Career Development Events(CDEs) such as Trap Shooting, Floriculture, and Meats, attend state and national conventions, win awards and scholarships, and network/connect with students around the state and country. If you are looking to get involved in the chapter, please seek out an officer, Lisa, or Brandon for more information. You can follow along with what the chapter is up to by liking our Facebook page, "Redwood Valley FFA." If you should ever need to get ahold of an advisor, contact either one at or . We are looking forward to working with the students and parents this upcoming school year!

Best wishes,
The Agricultural Education Department
