Redwood Area Early Childhood Programs

Redwood Area Preschool is part of the Redwood Area School District. Our staff supports each child in their learning adventures. Through the use of High Scope and COR Advantage Assessment your children will be ready for Kindergarten.

Mission

At Redwood Area Preschool children are encouraged to question, discover, learn and achieve. Our main focus is to provide children opportunities to learn about the world around them through play, exploration and curiosity that fosters social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Parents as Partners

Ongoing communication is essential to a successful school year. Our teachers welcome questions and conversations with parents. We ask for input from home in various ways, such as parent teacher conferences, field trips, and classroom volunteer opportunities and so much more.

Parent Aware Four Star Rating

Parent Aware Star Rating helps parents find programs that go above and beyond to prepare children for school and life. Programs earning a Four Star shows that it is equipped to offer the very best in quality care, assuring parents that it is doing all it can to prepare their children for school.

Congratulations to our Early Childhood Staff Spotlight

Staff Name:  Connie Bentson

Position:  School Readiness Teacher

-How long have you worked in your position, and if applicable, tell about your education?

I knew I wanted to be an Early Childhood teacher after I took the Careers class at RVHS when I was in high school. I attended and graduated from the University of MN Duluth.  This is my 22nd year teaching for RASD (ECFE, Discovery Time, Kindergarten Math, and School Readiness).

-What inspired you to become a teacher?

I had a preschool aged niece, Alexandra, when I was in high school. She was my favorite person. She started kindergarten the same year I started college. I loved spending time with her and watching her learn and grow. Working with young children has always been easy for me. It felt like the right fit from the get-go.

-What are your career goals?

Advocating about the importance and uniqueness of Early Childhood is important for me to continue. I would also like to learn to play the ukulele.

-What brings you the most joy in your work each day?

The students are joyful! I  see excitement and learning happening side by side in my students through creating a positive/supportive/engaging environment for kids to learn in. We have such a wonderful team in the Early Childhood Dept. I really love collaborating with my co-workers and making this department the best it can be.

-Our principal tells a joke every day.  Tell us your best joke?

Our principal also shares a quote with us each day. He says, ”We all get better everyday.” What great words for kids to hear and remember, because it is so true. So, how about a quote instead?

“Take care my little ones, for the world is big and you are small. But never forget… even the grandest of trees once had to grow up from the smallest of seeds.” -Miss Maple’s Seeds, by Eliza Wheeler
