Due to a generous grant from Redwood Electric Cooperative, RVHS was able to purchase 6 new drones for our Drone Program. The new Cetus Pro FTV Drones allow operators to wear googles to see a first person view from the drone. The students in Drones I and Drones II now are able to pilot four different drones and can earn their Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot License at the end of Drones II. Thanks again to the Redwood Electric Cooperative!

Due to a generous grant from Minnesota State's "Supporting Minnesota’s High School Nursing Assistant Equipment Grant", Redwood Valley High School was able to purchase a Geriatric Simulator. This equipment enables users to personally experience a variety of age-related physical challenges such as stooped posture and restricted range of motion. The experience helps them develop a unique sensitivity and understanding toward the elderly. The aging simulator includes a sensitivity suit, walker, storage case as well as curriculum. This will be used in our CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) course, as well as Health, Relationships and Child Development, and other classes.

Students in Mrs. Stephenson’s honors chemistry class have been learning about half reactions (the movement of electrons from one metal to another). To celebrate the holidays and take a break from balancing all sorts of fun equations, students are applying their knowledge to make holiday ornaments. Galvanized flashing is reacted with hydrochloric acid to remove the zinc coating on the metal. Then the metal is placed into a copper sulfate solution where the copper adheres to the flashing to create a “rust” colored surface. Students got to design their ornament however they wanted- any exposed metal that is not covered in tape will eventually be covered in copper.

Congratulations to our 12/21/22 Reede Gray Cardinal Code Shoutouts this week. Our Character Strong focus this month is on Empathy. Empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Our students have been working on taking the time to understand and connect with others. It isn’t just thinking about how others feel… it is taking action. Our students this week are growing in their Empathy each day. We are very proud of each of them! *Be Respectful *Be Responsible *Be Safe #ReedeGrayElementary #CharacterStrong #AlwaysTheCardinalWay #CardinalCode

Students in RVHS's Intro to Medical Careers class travelled to the Cadaver Lab at SDSU last week. Pictures were not allowed, but students were able to learn about anatomy. Here are some quotes from students: "The cadaver lab was a vivid experience for me. It was definitely one of the coolest things that I have ever seen in my entire life. I vividly remember holding the different joints, front chest plate, livers, lungs, arm, heart, and brain. "Just to see that this is all so real gave me a different perspective on anatomy. I have a lot more respect for anatomy after seeing the entire cadaver experience as a whole. *Seeing the difference between heart sizes was super cool too. Seeing the artificial valve inside the heart was very interesting. So many of these things we’ve seen on models or already learned about, but it is so much different when you get to see them in person on a real part of the body.
